2018-2019 Annual Report: Promoting Stability, Wealth and Prosperity for All Families
Dear Friends and Partners:
This year’s annual report comes at a time of transition for our organization, our field and our country.
As we enter our 40th year, Prosperity Now deepens its commitment to creating opportunity and fighting for economic justice. As we do, we also celebrate the many contributions and achievements of Andrea Levere, who stepped down as President earlier this year. As President Emerita, Andrea has provided invaluable counsel and continuity, and we thank her for all she has done for Prosperity Now.
During this time of transition, we want to honor all that we have learned over the last four decades as a leading intermediary in the economic justice field, while also ensuring that the voices, needs and solutions of low-and moderate-income communities, particularly communities of color, are heard and acted upon.
Even during times of change, what remains the same is our commitment to strengthening our existing partnerships and developing new relationships to best address the complex dilemmas of the wealth inequalities that plague our nation. Read more...
Our Prosperity Now Community, made up of nearly 24,000 advocates, practitioners and policy makers, remains dedicated to financial security and well-being for all. Together, we have achieved exciting federal, state and local policy victories. Among the most significant is our recent win for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program permanence and funding which we secured by mobilizing our networks and allies.
This year, we also oversaw the creation of a city-wide, universal, Children’s Savings Account (CSA) pilot initiative in Los Angeles that aims to provide a seed of $50 to each of the 40,000 first graders in the city with additional matching funds throughout their schooling. Once established, the Los Angeles CSA will be the largest program of its kind in the US.
We will continue to invest in the thousands of organizations that have turned to us for data, resources and policy solutions. Because without them, this work is not possible.
We are also very thankful to our partners, financial supporters and dedicated staff. We express sincere gratitude to those of you who have tirelessly committed time and energy to the success of our mission. We look forward to working with all of you through 2019 and beyond into a new era of prosperity and equity for all.
As you read this annual report, we hope that it will remind you of the recent success we have achieved together, while energizing you for our shared future. Thank you for your commitment to Prosperity Now and being part of a movement to bring economic opportunity to all.
