The EITC in 2018: What’s Ahead for Working Families Beyond Tax Reform
Things are uncertain for 2018. Provisions in the tax reform legislation give massive tax cuts to wealthy individuals and corporations while threatening to cut off working families who need support from important programs like the Child Tax Credit, which is essential to workers with children. Meanwhile, key programs like Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP and Social Security are under attack, and the new year is sure to bring new fights on these and other programs that are critical for working families. All of this leaves us to wonder: could the EITC be next?
The EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) is the most effective anti-poverty tool in the tax code, helping low-wage workers keep more of what they earn. But what does its future look like in the aftermath of sweeping changes to our tax code?
On February 1, join Prosperity Now, Tax Credits for Workers and Their Families, H&R Block and other partners on Capitol Hill to discuss how policymakers, community tax preparers and advocates can work together in 2018 to protect and expand the EITC and other programs that help low-income Americans get by and get ahead.
