WASHINGTON, D.C. — Supported by funding from the Wells Fargo Foundation, Prosperity Now today announced 26 organizations selected to receive grants through the Fall 2026 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Support Fund. The second 2026 funding round provides awards of up to $20,000 to IRS-certified VITA sites and organizations that directly support VITA operations nationwide.

The grants will help organizations prepare for and provide no-cost tax preparation services during the 2027 filing season. Funding may support staffing and volunteer needs, technology and equipment, taxpayer outreach, language access, service delivery, accessibility, and other costs tied to strong VITA operations.

Recipients were selected through a structured review process using consistent criteria, including demonstrated need, operational readiness, taxpayer outreach, expected reach and outcomes, and how the proposed budget supports service delivery. Organizations that applied during the spring 2026 round were automatically considered alongside new fall applicants unless they submitted an updated application.

“The next great leap in financial inclusion won’t come from an app that asks families to figure out the tax code alone,” said Marisa Calderon, President and CEO, Prosperity Now. “It will come from technology in the hands of trusted community institutions. This year’s VITA Support Fund recipients are running secure iPads out of the backs of vans in the Texas Hill Country, bringing laptops and mobile Wi-Fi to rural pop-ups in Hawaii, and providing virtual preparation for tribal communities in remote Alaska. That’s how modern public infrastructure can meet people where they are.”

The fall awards are part of Prosperity Now’s broader 2026 VITA Support Fund work with support from the Wells Fargo Foundation. Earlier this year, Prosperity Now selected 37 organizations in the first group of 2026 recipients. The broader initiative pairs direct funding with coordinated national support, including technical assistance, readiness webinars, peer learning, policy translation, and updated VITA curriculum materials.

On October 6, Prosperity Now will release updated VITA Train materials for the 2027 filing season at VITACon in Minneapolis. Awardees are strongly encouraged to participate in the one-day gathering, where practitioners and partners will work through filing-season readiness, training, policy changes, service delivery and other issues shaping the year ahead.

“Expanding opportunity starts with helping people access the resources they need to achieve financial well-being,” said Bonnie Wallace, Head of Financial Opportunity Philanthropy of Wells Fargo. “Through our support of Prosperity Now and VITA providers nationwide, we’re helping strengthen access to trusted tax preparation services that can make a meaningful difference for families and communities.”
