Starting Strong: Credit Building for Youth Transitioning from Foster Care

Credit scores determine eligibility for important wealth-building assets, such as financial products, employment and housing. Without good credit, people lack access to the tools that guarantee financial security and enable economic mobility.

Children transitioning from foster care are particularly vulnerable to being disadvantaged in the marketplace if they do not have the ability to build credit. To respond to this problem, Prosperity Now provided technical assistance to programs serving foster youth to integrate credit-building services into their work. This report shares insights from the 11-month technical assistance and provides recommendations for organizations serving foster youth.
